BBC Film’s “Pretty Red Dress” is the debut feature from writer and director Dionne Edwards. The South London based drama explores a family’s struggles with identity, ego, sexuality and gender stereotypes through their differing relationships with a red dress. The film was selected by Rolling Stone, Vanity Fair, and The Guardian in their best films of 2023 and was also picked as a Film of the Week by Mark Kermode. Hugo took the role of composer and musical director, putting together a soundtrack which features numerous recordings of Tina Turner classics by supporting actress Alexandra Burke, an original song “Mirror” featuring Denai Moore and a neo-soul / jazz influenced score.
