hugo brijs is a composer and songwriter.

Hugo’s journey in music started somewhere between his grandfather’s piano, his sister’s karaoke-cassette-recorder and an Ikea guitar. Inspired by scores like Star Wars and Lord of the Rings, and songs by Muse and Radiohead, he began recording his own compositions at the age of 11. Those first steps eventually lead to writing songs and playing in bands, studying music production at university in Cardiff, and landing his first job in music as a junior composer for a Soho based production company.

Since then, he has composed for various film, TV and games projects for the BBC, Film4, Netflix, Ubisoft and Epic Games, carving a niche as a composer whose work combines elements of both songwriting and scoring.

His first feature “Pretty Red Dress” was selected by Rolling Stone, Vanity Fair, and The Guardian in their best films of 2023 and was also picked as a Film of the Week by Mark Kermode. Forthcoming projects include the Film4 feature “Surviving Earth” which premiered at SXSW 2025 and “Cardboard”, an animated short from director J.P. Vine and Locksmith Animation which has been selected for the Annecy International Animation Film Festival 2025.

As the co-founder of the composer-producer team Thunderdrum, Hugo has written music for AAA games titles including “Fortnite Festival” and “Assassin's Creed: Shadows". He has also worked on numerous brand campaigns, collaborating with creatives including Mario Testino, Rankin and Imogen Heap, and creating music for labels such as Tommy Hilfiger, Calvin Klein and Kurt Geiger.

Hugo’s record releases “Friends”, “Glitra" and “Creeper” and collaborations with artists like Ed Nash (Bombay Bicycle Club), GIRLI and Will Joseph Cook have earned him support from UK indie music fans. Clocking up millions of streams and receiving praise from press including Wonderland and Clash Magazine, his songs have also aired across BBC Radio 1, BBC 6 and BBC Introducing with support from Abbie McCarthy, Huw Stephens, Jack Saunders, and Tom Robinson.
